Customs Classification
CROSS rulings
CROSS (Customs Rulings Online Search System) is the database of the US customs authority CBP with published classification rulings. TariffPilot includes matching rulings in US classification suggestions.
What is a CROSS ruling?
CROSS stands for Customs Rulings Online Search System. The database of the US customs authority CBP contains published classification rulings on the tariff classification of goods under the HTSUS. A ruling states how a specific good is to be classified in the US customs tariff and ensures consistent application.
How is a ruling different from a BTI?
Both are classification rulings that are binding on their holder. A BTI is valid throughout the EU for three years. A CBP ruling applies to the described goods without a fixed term and can be modified or revoked by CBP. Published rulings also serve as guidance for the classification practice.
How does TariffPilot use CROSS rulings?
During US classification, TariffPilot includes matching CROSS rulings in the suggestion so that the result reflects the published classification practice of CBP. Learn more about classification with TariffPilot on the customs tariff classification platform page.
